App terms of use
For the Help Me Talk app on iPhone, iPad and Android. The website has its own separate terms.
The licence
On iPhone and iPad, your use of Help Me Talk is governed by Apple’s Standard End User Licence Agreement (the “Licensed Application End User License Agreement”). On Android it is governed by the Google Play Terms of Service. Those documents are the licence; this page sets out the practical terms specific to this app and does not replace them.
In short: you get a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control. You may not resell it, redistribute it, or attempt to extract its content for use in another product.
Subscriptions
- The app is free to download. Two of the 30 sound lessons are free to practise; a subscription unlocks everything else.
- Price: $6.99 per month or $39.99 per year on the US App Store. Prices vary by country and your own store shows the price you will actually pay before you confirm.
- Free trial: where offered, the trial length is shown on the purchase screen. If you do not cancel before it ends, it converts to a paid subscription.
- Renewal: subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the period.
- Devices: a subscription covers the iPhones and iPads signed in to the same Apple ID. Android is a separate purchase through Google Play, and practice history is stored on each device rather than in an account.
Cancelling and refunds
Your subscription is billed and managed by Apple or Google, not by us — so cancellation happens there, not here:
- iPhone / iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Help Me Talk → Cancel, or manage subscriptions.
- Android: Google Play → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- Refunds are handled entirely by Apple or Google under their own policies. We cannot issue one, but if something has gone wrong, email us and we will help you make the case.
What this app is, and is not
Help Me Talk is a practice app, not a diagnosis or a replacement for a licensed speech-language pathologist. If you are worried about your child’s speech, talk to your doctor or an SLP — this app is for the practice in between.
The app does not screen for, diagnose, or rule out any condition, and its pronunciation scores are an automated estimate rather than a clinical assessment. Scores vary with background noise and how close the microphone is, so a trend over weeks means something and a single number does not. Nothing in the app should be used to make a decision about your child’s health without a qualified professional.
Acceptable use
- The app is for personal, family, classroom or clinical practice use.
- Do not attempt to reverse engineer it, extract its audio or word bank for another product, or use automated means to hammer the scoring service.
- An adult should set up the app and supervise a young child using it, including anything involving the camera or microphone.
Availability and changes
Pronunciation scoring depends on a network connection and on services we do not control, so it may occasionally be unavailable. The app is designed to keep working when that happens — it still records and still lets your child practise, it just cannot show a score.
We may add, change or remove features over time. If we ever discontinue the app we will say so in the store listing and on this site.
Liability
The app is provided as is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, and nothing here affects your statutory consumer rights.
