Feature
Build a sentence with pictures
Make Sentence is the picture board inside Help Me Talk. Your child taps two or three pictures, taps the gold sparkles button, and the app turns those words into a short sentence and reads it out loud. It is made for children who use single words and are ready to start putting them together.
The short answer
Tap "apple" and "orange", tap the gold button, and your child hears "I want apple and orange." There are 897 pictures in 8 folders (food, kitchen, verbs, sports, clothing, tools, hygiene and music), and you can add your own photos. It works on iPhone, iPad and Android, in English, and it is part of the Help Me Talk subscription.
US prices for iOS and Android. Prices vary by country; your store shows the price before you subscribe. The new prices are active on Google Play and take effect on the App Store on October 8, 2026.
What Make Sentence does
Many young children can name things one word at a time. "Juice." "Car." "Outside." The step after that is joining words, and it is hard because the child has to hold several words in mind and put them in order at the same time.
Make Sentence takes the holding part away. The pictures your child taps stay in a strip at the bottom of the screen. When they are ready, one tap turns the strip into a full sentence, spoken in a clear voice. Your child sees their own choices become a sentence they can copy.
- Tap pictures from a folder. Each one drops into the sentence strip.
- Tap the gold sparkles button. The app writes a simple sentence from those words.
- Hear it. The sentence is read out loud, and your child can say it back.
- Clear the strip and start a new one.
Watch it work
These are real screens from the app. Your child opens the food folder, taps an apple and an apricot, then taps the gold button to hear the sentence.
Inside the app
See how a child builds a sentence
This is the Make Sentence screen in Help Me Talk. A child taps pictures, and the app turns them into a short sentence and reads it aloud.

What is in the picture folders
The pictures show everyday things, grouped the way a child meets them during the day. The same 897 pictures ship on iPhone, iPad and Android.
| Folder | Pictures | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Food | 396 | Snacks, meals, asking for what they want |
| Kitchen | 113 | Cups, plates and things used at the table |
| Verbs | 106 | Action words like eat, drink, play and go |
| Sports | 91 | Games and play outside |
| Clothing | 75 | Getting dressed |
| Tools | 47 | Things around the house |
| Hygiene | 40 | Bath time, brushing teeth, washing hands |
| Music | 29 | Instruments |
How the sentence is made
On iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or later, Help Me Talk uses Apple's on-device AI to turn the chosen words into a natural sentence. "Apple, milk" becomes "I want apple and milk." The words are processed on the device.
On older iOS versions and on Android, the app uses simple sentence patterns. It knows which words are feelings, actions, sports or things, and fits them into short sentences a child can copy.
| Your child taps | A sentence they might hear |
|---|---|
| apple, orange | I want apple and orange. |
| happy | I feel happy. |
| eat, apple | I want to eat the apple. |
| football | I want to play football. |
How to use it at home
- 1Pick a real moment. Open the food folder at snack time, or the clothing folder while getting dressed.
- 2Let your child choose. Ask "What do you want?" and wait. Don't tap for them.
- 3Start with two pictures. One thing plus one action ("drink", "juice") is a big step for a child who uses single words.
- 4Tap the gold button together, listen, then say the sentence again slowly yourself.
- 5Give them the thing. When the sentence gets them the snack, they learn that joining words works.
- 6Add your own photos for the people, toys and places your child talks about most.
Problems and fixes
| What happens | Try this |
|---|---|
| Your child taps ten pictures in a row | Clear the strip and ask for two. A short sentence is easier to copy. |
| The sentence sounds odd | Pick fewer words, or a thing plus an action. Long mixes are harder to turn into a sentence. |
| They only listen and never repeat | That is fine at first. Hearing the sentence comes before saying it. Model it yourself after each tap. |
| The picture they want is missing | Tap + and add a photo of it. |
What Make Sentence does not do
It is a practice board, not a full communication system. A child who has no reliable way to speak usually needs an AAC system set up with a speech-language pathologist. Our guide to sentence building apps explains the difference and names good options.
The pictures and the voice are in English only. Make Sentence does not score your child's speech. The sound lessons do that, and both are in the same app.
It is part of the subscription. You can try the whole app free for 3 days, then it is $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year in the US.
Questions parents ask
- Is Make Sentence an AAC app?
- No. Make Sentence in Help Me Talk is a picture board for practising sentences with a child who already uses some words. A child who cannot speak reliably usually needs a full AAC system chosen with a speech-language pathologist.
- How many pictures does it have?
- Help Me Talk ships 897 pictures in 8 folders: food, kitchen, verbs, sports, clothing, tools, hygiene and music. You can also add your own photos with the camera or from your photo library.
- Can I add my own pictures?
- Yes. In Help Me Talk, tap the + button on the Make Sentence screen to take a photo or choose one from your library. It works on iPhone, iPad and Android.
- Does it use AI?
- On iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or later, Help Me Talk uses Apple's on-device AI to write the sentence, and the words are processed on the device. On older iOS versions and on Android it uses built-in sentence patterns instead.
- What age is it for?
- Help Me Talk's Make Sentence suits children who say single words and are starting to combine them, often between 2 and 4 years old. Older children with a language delay can use it too. What matters is the step your child is on, not their age.
- Does it work in other languages?
- No. Help Me Talk is in English only, so the pictures, the sentences and the voice are all English.
- Is it free?
- Make Sentence is part of the Help Me Talk subscription. A 3-day free trial unlocks the whole app, then it is $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year in the US. Prices vary by country.
- Does my child's progress show up anywhere?
- Yes. The Help Me Talk 4-week practice plan can include Make Sentence activities, and time your child spends on the board counts toward that day's plan.
